Feed the Poor – why?
The poor can be fed as Kaffaaraa Nadhuru, Fidhya / Mudhdhu, or even charity.

Fidhya
If a person cannot fast during Ramadan due to old age or sickness, they must pay Fidhya in return for every Fast. It means feeding a person in need for two meals a day. It is also called Mudhdhu.

Kaffarah
Kaffarah is feeding the poor as a punishment for some acts; If a Muslim breaks the fast, during Ramadan intentionally without a valid reason or makes the fast invalid, he/she must fast for 60 consecutive days. However, if that person is physically unable to do so, he/she must pay Kaffarah in a return for each fast.

Nadhuru
Ndhuru (vow) is obliging oneself to do something that is not obligatory. This vow is a promise that a person must keep. However, if they break it, Kaffarah should be given in return. Therefore, Nadhuru a Kaffarah that is paid as a return for the expiation of oath / breaking a promise.

Charity Feeding
Feeding the poor voluntarily to earn the reward and favor of Allah. It is a type of Sadaqah.

Virtues of feeding the poor
Quran: “And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskeen (poor person) (for every day). سورة البقرة 184”
Sunnah: Ibn ‘Abbaas said: This (above-mentioned verse) refers to an old man or an old woman who is not able to fast, so for each day they should feed one poor person.” صحيح البخاري 4505.
